“All Girls”
Why are you the right organization to do this work and what links do you have with similar organizations doing similar work?
Through our initiative, we have seen many lives changed for the better. When these girls come to us, most are illiterate and have little or next to no chance of receiving an education. Often abandoned, the fate of these girls are very grim: the lucky ones will make their living as day laborers: however, many will inevitably be exploited and sold to human sex traffickers. Once the girls become accustomed to the loving and nurturing home environment and the challenging school environment, they quickly rise to the top of the classes. ALL of our girls rank in the top national percentiles on their test scores.
Our home is the only ALL girls home in the district.* In an “all girls” home, a girl is focused on her achievements and her education rather that her social image. They stop being the audience and become the player.
We are also unique in that the girls’ diet consists of non-vegetarian foods served for times a week – this is considered a luxury in India and is a much needed source of protein.
The home is a very comfortable home by Indian standards. The land has been completely fenced by a six foot wall and there are two bore wells which are the source of good drinking water. Landscaping included lots of coconut palms and fruit trees.
